A Very Unusual Hard-to-find and probably Rare Victorian Amber Glass Butter Dish. It is called The Jockey Cap Butter Dish. The front panel of the Cap is identical to the Helmet Butter Dish which was made by King, Son and Company. Circa 1880's. Ht. 5" and the diameter of the base is 7 1/2" from the front edge to rear edge. Inside diameter is 5 1/2". The lid is like a Jockey Cap and the base is in the shape of a Horseshoe. The lid has 3 Daisy and Button sections on it with some horizontal lines in between which make it look like stripes on a Cap. It has a small flake on the front left edge of the horseshoe base, as shown below. If you collect butters, this is one that would get a lot of attention in your collection. |
