Green Klondyke Pattern Dish $ 35 |

|
Rare Victorian delicately folded triangular Emerald Green dish in the Klondyke pattern by Northwood. (ala Fluted Scrolls). Circa 1900. The highest point is 3 1/2". diameter is 6" to 7" according to where you measure. It appears to have been made from the spooner or sugar mold of the table set with free hand work by the glassworker. The pattern matches those pieces with the strongest evidence being the ridge around the top of the dish just like the spooner and sugar. It would have no purpose if the bowl had been designed from scratch, i.e. it would not be there. Heacock, in his classic book on Opalescent Glass Book II, noted that the emerald green color belonged only to Alaska, the sister pattern of Klondyke. It is well known that the shakers for Klondyke are typically used with Alaska when they have the decoration as shown in the photo as square Alaska shakers are extremely rare. We know of no other piece of Klondyke that has been reported in the literature in this green color. One can never be sure what Northwood did but this is a nice rare piece of Northwood glass. |
